PRESS RELEASE
PARTNERSHIP FOR NEW YORK CITY
New York, New York
February 26, 2009
“The Ravitch Commission put forward a fair and balanced plan for funding the region's mass transit system. On Wednesday, Speaker Sheldon Silver led the Assembly Democrats toward a position that generally adopts the Ravitch formula, requiring employers, straphangers and drivers to all contribute to the costs of maintaining and upgrading the system. We congratulate the Speaker on his effective leadership in moving toward a reasonable solution that will avoid a major increase in fares. We urge Senate Majority Leader Smith and his membership to follow suit so that the MTA funding issues can be resolved and the larger state budget issues can be addressed."
