Partnership for New York City Announces 2011-12 Class of David Rockefeller Fellows

The Partnership for New York City today announced the selection of 19 senior business executives as David Rockefeller Fellows for 2011-12. During the next year, the Fellows will learn how New York City works from top leaders in government, labor and the private sector. At the end of the program, the Fellows will join a cadre of business leaders who are committed to following David Rockefeller’s model of corporate civic engagement.

Since its inception in 1989, more than 275 executives have completed the program, including those who have gone on to serve in the public sector. Alumni include City Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan; New York City Housing Authority Chairman John Rhea; First Deputy NYC Comptroller Eric Eve; Doris Duke Charitable Foundation President Edward Henry; University of Pennsylvania School of Design Dean Marilyn Jordan Taylor; and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer Peggi Einhorn.

Through the program, Fellows learn firsthand how the city is run from heads of agencies, major companies and nonprofit organizations. They visit Rikers Island with the Department of Correction Commissioner; the World Trade Center construction site with the head of the Port Authority; the MTA Command Center; and the Con Edison Energy Control Center. They hear cases with family court judges at Manhattan Family Court and visit public schools in economically distressed communities.

“David Rockefeller believes that business leaders should be knowledgeable and personally involved with all aspects of the city,” said Kathryn Wylde, President & CEO of the Partnership for New York City. “The Fellows program is our way of ensuring that successive generations of business executives are engaged with the city and prepared to contribute to its well being.”
